About the Founder
R. Andrew Cox
Founder & Principal Investigator
Andy Cox founded Virtus Investigative Services to apply the discipline of formal investigation to civil, corporate, and fiduciary matters. He retired from the San Francisco Police Department as a Lieutenant of Police, capping a career that spanned patrol, investigations, and command-level supervision. Prior to law enforcement, Andy worked as a stockbroker, holding the Series 7 and Series 63 licenses — a financial background that continues to inform his work on asset, fraud, and due diligence matters.
A California licensed private investigator and Certified Fraud Examiner, Andy regularly works alongside trial counsel, corporate clients, fiduciaries, and family offices — handling matters that demand both investigative depth and reputational discretion.
His emphasis is on rigorous method, careful sourcing, and reporting that is genuinely useful to decision-makers — clear, sourced, and structured for legal use.

Statement of Practice
"Investigation, done properly, removes guesswork from consequential decisions."
Virtus operates as a small, senior-led practice — closer in shape to a litigation consultancy than a traditional investigations agency. Engagements are direct, scoped, and supervised by the founder from intake through reporting.
